Lyrikal StormLyrikal Storm: Spoken Word Workshop for Teens

Find your voice and share your creativity! Learn to perform your lyrics, poetry or stories with the help of Lyrikal Storm. A series of free workshops is being offered at the Hillcrest Heights Library in July. The finale will be presented at Café Groove. For details and to register, please call the branch. Ages 15-18.

Homeschool Workshop
Wednesday, July 30 2-4 pm Surratts-Clinton Branch
Veteran homeschool moms will share their homeschooling experiences. Beverly Capone provides a detailed explanation of Maryland homeschool laws and requirements, how to meet them, describes a portfolio review and how to access updates on pgcps.org. A children’s librarian will discuss the great variety of library and online resources available to homeschool families. Capone homeschooled her children for 16 years and now conducts portfolio review for Prince George’s County Public Schools. For parents who are considering or beginning homeschooling.

Vintage Black Cinema

Vintage Black Cinema & Charles Chesnutt Stamp Presentation
Wednesday, August 6 7 pm Oxon Hill Branch
Please join the U.S. Postal Service and Sojourner Truth African American Research Collection for a special educational program on the Vintage Black Cinema Stamp and the recently released Charles Chesnutt Stamp. Both are notable additions to the Black Heritage series and the Expressions of African Americans Cultural Diary. African American stamp issues and first day covers will be available for sale. These stamps continue the U.S. Postal Service’s effort to document the lives and thoughts of African Americans, including such notables as Paul Robeson, Wilma Rudolph and James Baldwin.
