Position Title: Library Associate (eligibility list effective for six months)
Location: Various Locations throughout the Library System in Prince George's County, Maryland
Hours: Full (40 hours/week) and Part-time (20 and 30 hours/week). All schedules include a combination of daytime, evening and Saturday hours.
Salary:
40 hours - $36,453
30 hours - $27,341
20 hours - $18,227

Examples of Duties: Provides reference and readers' advisory services to customers; assists customers in the use of library equipment and reference tools; promotes library services and collection usage. Develops and maintains displays; assists in planning and conducting a variety of programs and special events. Reviews journals, book reviews and other professional literature and makes suggestions for purchase of new materials. Works in various departments or branches other than where regularly assigned. Performs circulation tasks when required; receives and processes reserve and interlibrary loan requests. Serves on committees. Performs other duties or responsibilities that are related to the position.
Qualifications/Requirements: Possession of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Some knowledge of library services offered to the public. General knowledge of research techniques and procedures; general knowledge of office procedures and records maintenance techniques; ability to develop competent skills in an area of specialty with moderate training. Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with a diverse public, community organizations and staff. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Work involves extensive standing; walking; reaching, stooping, bending, grasping and moving objects; and use of computer, telephone and other office equipment.
Necessary Special Requirement: Within two (2) years of appointment as Library Associate I, incumbent is required to complete a minimum of 90 hours of in-service training by attending the Maryland State Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) or complete nine (9) hours of formal course work in library science from an accredited program.
