Position Title: Librarian/Branch Manager I
Location: Bladensburg Branch, 4820 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg, Maryland
Hours: Full Time (40 hours/week). All schedules include a combination of daytime, evening and Saturday hours.
Salary: $45,921 - $50,500 DOQ and a generous benefits package.

Examples of Duties: Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates the branch’s services and programs. Initiates and maintains community contacts and evaluates library services in relation to changing needs in the community. For the branch and assigned small branches, evaluates and maintains collection; recommends additions, deletions and changes. Monitors budget requests and expenditures for the branch. Plans and devises programs for the effective development and utilization of staff; trains, supervises and evaluates performance of staff in supervisory line. Conducts staff meetings; prepares and presents a variety of financial, statistical and other reports on branch activities; maintains records. Provides quality reference and readers’ advisory services to customers; assists customers in the use of Library equipment and reference tools; promotes library services and collection usage. Maintains physical facilities; responsible for security, repairs and alterations. Keeps informed of professional developments in library service. Attends professional meetings, workshops and conferences and serves on committees. May work in branches other than where regularly assigned. Performs circulation tasks when required. Performs other duties or responsibilities that are related to the position.
Qualifications/Requirements: Possession of a Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program and three (3) years experience in diverse phases of public library services which includes supervisory experience. Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of library science, management and administration and of public library services and their objectives. Thorough knowledge of public library practices. Skill in program development and presentation. Ability to effectively direct the services, administration, personnel and budgetary activities of a branch. Ability to supervise, including planning, scheduling, training and evaluating staff, and to train them in professional and supporting aspects of branch operations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse staff, community organizations and customers. Ability to communicate effectively both orally (including presentations) and in writing and prepare accurate records and reports. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment, work on multiple priorities simultaneously in a high stress environment and meet deadlines. Spanish language skills preferred. Work involves extensive standing; walking; reaching, stooping, bending, grasping and moving objects; and use of computer, telephone and other office equipment.
Necessary Special Requirement: Professional Public Librarian Certification in the State of Maryland
