Position Title: Librarian I (eligibility list effective for six months)
Location: Various Locations throughout the Library System in Prince George's County, Maryland
Hours: Full (40 hours/week) and Part-time (20 and 30 hours/week). All schedules include a combination of daytime, evening and Saturday hours.
Salary:
40 hours - $39,370
30 hours - $29,527
20 hours - $19,684

Examples of Duties: Promotes Library services and collection usage; provides reference and readers' advisory services; plans, conducts and evaluates programs, story hours, book talks and networking activities with schools, community agencies and groups. Develops and maintains the materials collection in assigned subject areas to meet community information and recreational needs; reads and reviews print and non-print materials; identifies replacement needs; recommends repair or discard of books or other Library materials; processes gift books; serves on selection and/or replacement committees; selects, orders and maintains materials for the pamphlet file; plans and arranges for displays and exhibits; compiles bibliographies; maintains files and indexes. Trains and supervises Library volunteers. Attends workshops and meetings and serves on committees as requested or assigned. May work in various departments or branches other than where regularly scheduled. Performs other duties or responsibilities that are related to the position.
Qualifications/Requirements: Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program or, for current Library Associates, possession of a Bachelor's Degree and 24 credit hours completed toward a Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program. Knowledge of library resources, services, techniques, policies and procedures. Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications and in dealing tactfully and efficiently with a diverse public and staff. Work involves extensive standing, reaching, stooping, bending and moving objects and the use of a telephone and computer.
Necessary Special Requirement: Certification as Professional Public Librarian in the State of Maryland within 90 days of hire.
