Placing Holds

You can place a hold on an item in our collection that is checked out. When you place a hold, you will be notified, by phone or U.S. Mail, as soon as a copy of that title becomes available for checkout.

To Place a Hold:

  • Search the Library Catalog for the title you would like to reserve.
  • To access the full record, click on the title (hyperlinked).
  • To reserve the item, i.e. place a hold, click on the Hold Title button.
  • On the Hold Patron Check - type in
    • Your patron barcode, with no spaces;
    • Your home phone number, with no punctuation.
(To gain access to your record, your patron barcode number and telephone number should match exactly with our computer records.)
  • Commit Hold - Select your pickup location from the drop down menu and click on commit hold.
  • Hold Response - displays the Title/Author and Hold Status. Check under Hold Status to verify if the opertaion was successful.

You will not be able to place holds if :

  • If the title does not have copies which can circulate (for instance: Reference or Special Collections materials).
  • You library barcode and phone number do not exactly match with our computer records.

If you are unable to place a hold on an item, please contact your local branch or refer to the FAQs.

Viewing your holds list :

  • Access Your Account from the Library catalog.
  • Click on the Holds List button. GeoWeb shows the date the hold was placed, the title and author, the hold expiration date, and the location at which the item can be picked up when available. If the item is available now, the page also shows the date until which the library will reserve the item.

Cancelling your Holds :

  • Access Your Account from the Library catalog.
  • Click on the Holds List button.
  • If you want to cancel one or more of the holds, click the Cancel checkbox next to each, and then click the Cancel Selected Holds button.
  • If you want to cancel all of the holds, click the Cancel All Holds button.
  • To return to the Patron Record page, click the Return button.
  • To leave the patron function pages and return to the database search pages, click the Return to Search button.
