ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Collection Highlights
Each branch has a collection of ESOL materials chosen to meet the needs of adult English language learners.
These books, cassettes, and CDs are selected to help adults working to improve their language and reading skills. Look here for English language instruction in many languages, helpful cultural information for the new arrival, and a wide variety of subjects presented in clear and simple language.
- Conversation Clubs
Practice speaking English in an informal, friendly atmosphere with people from diverse backgrounds. Contact the Hyattsville and New Carrollton branch libraries for more information.

- Intepreted Reference Services
At Prince George's County Memorial Library System we use a special
Service called Interpretalk to communicate with our non-English
speaking customers. This service provides interpreters who can
translate a variety of languages. If a Librarian is unable to
understand a specific language he/she will telephone an interpretor
who will translate the entire transaction. Please bring your questions to the information desk, no matter
what language you speak. We will do our best to answer your questions.

- Literacy Council of Prince George's County, MD
The Literacy Council of Prince George’s County provides tutors to help adult learners with reading, writing, and comprehension skills. The Literacy Council offers a general tutoring program called English for Speakers of Other Languages. This program works with non-English speakers who need help with basic English conversation and with reading and writing skills. (301) 699-9770

New Americans
US Citizenship Preparation Classes
Citizenship preparation classes are offered in our neighboring counties, and residents of Prince George's County are welcome providing they have Permanent Resident status. These classes are sponsored by the Maryland Office for New Americans.
